This unit has a light workload and may work well with electives that have heavier workloads.

TIPS FOR PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS

While the readings aren't essential, I think they increase the quality of your answers and may lead to a higher mark. Also stay on top of the first 2 topics, because without them the last 2 topics will be very difficult!

Student Reviews

#1 Semester 1 2021

I would highly recommend this unit! There are 4 topics, the first 2 focusing on different types of discrimination (direct and indirect) and bringing an action, and the last 2 focus on specific forms of discrimination (we did sexual and disability discrimination). The mid-semester assignment was a policy essay, which allowed you to go into depth on various interesting topics. The unit gives you a broad enough overview that you can apply what you have learnt in the real world, while going through specific examples. The lecturer was fantastic, and really fostered judgement-free discussion. Overall a terrific unit!!

#2 Semester 1 2021

Yes, is the best subject I have done. The content is incredibly interesting and relevant - it covers sex discrimination and disability discrimination. The assignment for us was either on affirmative action, race discrimination or gender discrimination. There is quite a neat structure for answering questions and the cases are very interesting.

#3 Semester 1 2021

Interesting content, not a lot of content and well-taught, do this unit
